Improved agricultural practices
In rural mountain region, agriculture is the key source of livelihood for local community. In recent years, climate change (i.e. rise in temperature, extreme weather conditions & irregular rain pattern) has drastically affected the rural livelihood especially agricultural activities. To address this issues, there is an urgent need to shift towards climate smart & eco-friendly agricultural practices for improving sustainable livelihood of rural community. As women are major stakeholder in agricultural activities, thus to improve living conditions of marginalized women SATHI has undertaken various programme with SHG’s on climate smart farming practices (specially vegetable cultivation) and using crop intensification (SCI ) and organic farming techniques. SATHI has motivated the women farmers for adoption of organic ways of farming so as to maintain soil fertility, reduce the cost of agricultural inputs and water, check the soil erosion and eco-imbalance and further provide high returns of crops & vegetable products for their income generation.
SATHI organized awareness & training camps with women farmers and motivated them for adoption of the improved package of crop and vegetable cultivation (Tomato, Chili, Garlic, Capsicum, Coriander, Cucumber, Pea, Turnip and Methi etc) . During organization of training programmes, SATHI also invites external resource person & agricultural experts from KVK ( Krishi Vigyan Kendra ) who provide professional guidance to farmers & share their knowledge & experience with them. Through audio visual aids & practical demonstration, SATHI informed & trained local farmers about various aspects of vegetable & crop cultivation such as seed treatment, preparation of nursery bed, nursery raising, transportation and planting of sapling, mulching, watering, organic manure/vermi compost, crop cutting and storage and marketing of farm produces etc.
