SATHI under ‘ITC- Mission Sunehra Kal ‘ initiated community based Solid Waste Management interventions in 02 GPs ( Manpura & Kishanpura) of Nalagarh block of Solan (HP). Key objective of the programme is to aware local community about plastic pollution and its impact on the environment; and undertaking action oriented activities for dry-wet waste segregation, collection, transportation, processing, recycling and proper disposal.
SATHI with support of local SHG’s & PRI formed about 28 Mohalla Committee’s in these 02 GP’s (Manpura & Kishanpura ) covering 1450-1500 household’s. Stakeholders i.e. PRI, Mohalla Committees, SHG’s & local community sensitised and trained on their roles and responsibilities in implementing solid waste management programme .
Mohalla committee has been given responsibility for waste segregation at household & community level as well as collection of monthly user charges. Users especially SHG’s women are sensitised and trained for dry-wet waste segregation and home composting. Besides, SATHI also joining hand with local civic body BBNDA and JBR company for ensuring regular waste collection at respective GPs and its proper processing, recycling and disposal at JBR’s Kenduwal plant.
